WW2 - BATTLE OF THE SCHELDT

Between 2 October and 8 November 1944 a series of military operations was carried out by the First Canadian Army, with assistance of Polish and British units, to open up the route to the Port of Antwerp in Northern Belgium and Southwestern Netherlands. These operations were succesful, though the cost was high: over 20,000 Allied casualties were sustained with numerous amphibious landings and assaults over open ground against the well-fortified German defences.

Visiting the battlefields of the Battle of the Scheldt requires a full day tour as there are many memorials and sites to visit. Tours can be tailored to your preferences, with focus on one of the operations, specific memorials and museums or focusing on a specific unit that took part in the battle.
